| Picnic 10' x 20' x 20' painted wood, steel, canvas, 1986 Picnic was a site-specific sculpture built for the Sculpture on the Mall Symposium in the summer of 1986 near the Washington Monument in Washington, DC In 1989, I wrote of my work: "The major focus of my work has been a playful observation of everyday domestic activities such as eating dinner, having a picnic, and sitting in a garden. I am particularly interested in furniture, and I use it as a symbol for the figure in his environment. When a family dines at a table, the table functions not only as a platform to support the plates and food, but also as a stage for dialog between the characters." next |
